Is there such a thing as websites needing your credit card information to 'verify your account?&

Tons of sites seems innocent and talk about free accounts, but then when you sign up they ask for your information. They say you won't be charged and it's just to verify, but I always X out immediately, I don't trust it

Answers:

no legal site asks for your full SSN, they might ask for the last four digits, but never the entire number
if you are looking for information about yourself in many cases that is the way information is sought, far too many people have the same name and can only be distinguished by the difference in their SSN's

The credit card CAN be used to check you address. But most likely they are hoping to charge you later.

Never under any condition give out your credit card number.

Your right to not trust that. I would X out too.

No.

The only thing in the world that they can do with a credit card is to charge you money. They cannot use it for anything else. The only possible reason for them to need it is so that they can charge you. If they were not going charge you, then the card would be completely useless to them and they would not want or need it.

You are right to "x" out and not to trust them. Credit cards do not provide any form of verification, whether it be your name, address, age or legal status. There ain't no free lunch!

Neither do I.

Plenty of free porn.
