My mom was yelling at me for something stupid I did and I started crying, then eventually I started breathing very very fast. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath, I was sweaty, I was REALLY dizzy afterwards and couldn't walk and I got very cold

Answers:

Cry more

I can help. I have severe Bipolar disorder with anxiety and panic. It definitely sounds like you had a panic attack. i encourage you to get into treatment. See a psychiatrist and a therapist. So you can cope with panic attacks. I REALLY hope that helps you out. If I helped you please vote me for best answer. Feel better HUGZ Raymond

It sounds definitely sounds like it

I suffer from emetophobia. I tend to suffer at least one (mild-awful) panic attack a day. The fast breathing is definitely an anxiety symptom! I always get this every time I have a panic attack. Panic attacks can make you feel like you can't breathe as well, I should imagine if your breathing fast, that's going to make it harder to catch your breathe.

And also, if you can't catch you breathe, that's (in my veiw anyway) why you may feel dizzy, because of the lack of oxygen to your brain. The shakiness is something I get when I have a panic attack, I normally only shake if it's quite a bad panic attack.

I'm pretty sure 20 minuets is around the average time a panic attack lasts (normally they last between 10-15 I think)

Panic attacks can be very nasty things. They can be so bad they mimic a heart attack. But you've got to remember, panic attacks are created by yourself, so therefore are preventable and you can get rid of them.

I personally wouldn't worry, but if you feel necessary, see your gp.

Don't be scared, no one dies of a panic attack like the one you describe. Of course it is not pleasant and is scary in the moment. Be careful you don't get so sensitized that you are triggered by such small things as your mom yelling. Don't exaggerate small things in your mind. It's not the end of the world if mom gets mad. Both of you will get over it. However, you don't need to get sick in order to make her change. Talk to her instead. What she doesn't understand is that even if you did make it up (which you didn't), the fact is that her anger is very upsetting to you. Try to negotiate with your mom about whatever the quarrel is about. Ask her not to yell at you, and you can also promise something in return. If you or your mom are mad, take a time out and then discuss the problem when you feel more calm. Tell your mom how it feels when she yells at you. I know it's hard to explain, but she needs to know that it makes you feel scared and unhappy and unloved.
