Answers:

Yes

Yes I do, but no, I don't believe there are any secrets about it.

Yes, and absolutely no, as anyone with such proof would be getting a Nobel Prize

Life or INTELLIGENT life ?
Big difference.

There may be a universe full of moss and lichen, but we might be the only intelligent beings in it.

There is very probably life on some other planets, but no nearby planet is likely to have detectable life on it. Planets with a population capable of generating some kind of coherent signal are most likely very rare and that implies very far away, much further than any signal could be detected.

There is no point or profit in suppressing evidence if life elsewhere existed. Suppression is impossible in any case, since the science of astronomy is done by astronomers around the world. Many have no allegiance and may even be personally hostile to whichever government(s) you think might be suppressing evidence. So they ignore those governments and publish anyway.

Yes, and no.

“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”
― Arthur C. Clarke

if there is life on other planets and that is known , the release of such information would instantly demolish every religion and consequently the belief in an afterlife , the results of that would be so severe that it might be wise not to disclose such information

No. The conditions that have to exist for life are very "strict". The Universe is VERY big. The chances of life are VERY small. What you get is essentially "infinity divided by zero". Put another way, we almost didn't come into existence. That's one argument for intelligent creation as opposed to random existence.

everywhere we look, common elements combine in ways that are reminiscent of life. in a universe as large and as old as ours, either life has arisen elsewhere, or our understanding of several areas is badly flawed.

a good argument, however, is no substitute for actual detection. such detection will be a defining moment in human history, and i hope it will occur in my lifetime.

in our solar system my money is on europa.
